Cancer patients deserve control over their therapy: Column

Luckily 43 states — including Mississippi — have passed legislation to ensure cancer patients will have fair and equal access to whichever treatment is the best for them. But state action is not enough. Many Americans, including seniors, have health insurance that is regulated by the federal government and passing national legislation will be the only way to fully tackle this problem.

Earlier this year, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi helped us get one step closer to achieving this goal. Sen. Wicker co-sponsored legislation to make oral chemotherapy as accessible as traditional chemotherapy. This isn’t surprising as Sen. Wicker has long been a champion of patients.
